For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. I absolutely love this verse! Who doesn’t? Just reading and hearing (in my spirit), the word new fills me with hope. The God of creation, who never sleeps or slumbers is at work behind the scenes creating something entirely new!

I AM about to do….I HAVE already begun…I WILL make…I WILL create…

Every statement is authoritative, affirmative, positive and declaratory. And although this is a prophetic Word regarding a future work, we can know, based on scripture and God’s proven track record, that He will do exactly what He said He will do, and what’s more He will complete what He started.

While this verse does not reveal what exactly it is that God is at work executing, we can glean that He is already behind the scenes orchestrating something completely new, an original masterpiece that’s not been displayed before. Further, we can be assured that what God is doing is absolutely good, as He is good, and He only does good. And finally, we are able to derive that God already sees His completed work. Additionally, as if it couldn’t get any better, our Father lovingly extends an invitation for us to see His work as well! And in light of this most gracious offer, our response then must be to see. See what He is doing; see what He has begun; and by faith, see the fulfillment of His Word. We are enabled to do this, see that is, by intentionally committing to the following actions…

The first of these actions is remembering. This is a deliberate step that enables us to practically see. As we reflect on what God has done in the past, both throughout biblical history, and in our own personal lives, we position ourselves to see Him at work in the present and behind the scenes in our future. Mentally and verbally recounting the faithfulness and goodness of God, strengthens us with hope as we wait patiently and confidently to see God’s Word and promises become a reality.

Next we are enabled to see God at work through scripture. This however is only effective if we take God’s Word personally. If we read the Bible solely as an information book, that is exactly what we will receive…information. Alternately, if we read God’s Word as the God-breathed, (Ruah), life-giving, Holy Spirit inspired Word of God, the result is rhema and revelation. And this is precisely how we are exhorted through scripture to read and study God’s Word. (See 2 Timothy 3:16).

As we intentionally meditate on, recite, and record scripture verses and passages, we become empowered physically and spiritually, to see the words and promises that God has spoken over our lives that have come to fruition. And this practice serves as a further reminder that God never changes. He is now, forever will be, and has always been the very same God. The same God who healed your broken heart, is the very same God that will provide a job for you. And He’s the exact same God Who will open up doorways of opportunity that you never thought were possible! He is at work everywhere and in everything…see.

Like Father, like Son…

But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”

And finally, we see God at work as we walk through difficult circumstances, disappointments, and sufferings with others. Caring for, encouraging, and upholding each other is the responsibility and privilege of every Christ follower. And as we commit to these actions, we also benefit by witnessing firsthand, the victory and breakthrough of people who wholeheartedly trust Yahweh during times of trial and adversity. And a further blessing we receive by walking through hardships with others is seeing God.

So perhaps today, ask God for a vision of what He sees in your future and the future of those you love. Write down what you hear Him say to you. Then research the scriptures and record God’s promises next to His personal word to you. And finally close this time in prayer thanking God for the great work He is doing in you, for you and through you.

Prayer

Gracious and loving Father, we are so grateful for Your life-giving words that are recorded for us in Scripture. Thank You that Your words are life and light, providing us with wisdom, counsel, truth, guidance and vision. Empower us to trust in the reliability of Your Word and the certainty of Your promises even when we can’t see what You’re doing. Help us to visualize by faith what You already see. Thank You, Holy God that you see the end of each of our stories and declare, they are good.
