This is a picture of my goofy, lovable kitty. In his limited cat mentality, he actually believes he has hidden himself under my bed. Unfortunately, as you can see, his covert attempt has clearly failed as half of his body remains exposed. My husband and I laugh when we regularly find him like this, and Oliver, my cat, always seems surprised that once again his hiding place has been discovered. I shared this picture with you as this humorous scenario caused me to reflect upon a spiritual truth…

God Sees Everything …

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes….
Hebrews 4:13 NLT

God sees literally everything and everyone. He sees you, He sees me, He sees the people we are praying for. He sees our struggles, our fears, our future and our tears. He sees our pain, our problems, our praise and our prayers. He sees it all. And this reality is not intended to instill fear, but rather is cause for great confidence and peace. Our loving Father is intimately acquainted with every unique detail and divinely distinct feature of who we are…

God Saw Us Before We existed…

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Psalms 139:16 NLT

What is so beautifully evidenced through this verse is that God’s sight is not limited to merely physical vision, but also includes insight and perception. His sight penetrates deep. He sees behind the visual and the temporal into the unseen and eternal. Just as God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours, so it is with His vision. It is deeper in scope, and far more grandeur than ours. As I pondered this, I found it noteworthy that there are no scriptural references that speak of God merely glancing at something or someone. Instead, His sight is purposeful, intentional, all comprehensive, thorough and complete.

In the process of writing this post, I was reminded of the popular phrase, I see you, most often communicated with gestures rather than words. According to the Urban dictionary,

I see you is defined as follows…

I See You: What someone says to you when they understand where you are coming from, or they are impressed with you.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/

It’s always positive to receive affirmation and encouragement from others, and to extend it graciously as well. But far superior to receiving recognition from people, is the realization that we are intimately loved, known and seen by the God of the Universe.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Psalm 139:6 (ESV)
(Spoken by King David, a man who understood and pursued the heart of God)

It truly is amazing, humbling, inspiring and praiseworthy to realize that God is never far removed from us. He knows right where we are 24/7. At times the weights, cares and trials of this world may cause us to lose sight of God, but we are never, for one minute out of His sight.

Our all seeing, Omniscient God sees us in all places and all spaces…

You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.
Psalms 139:3 (NLT)

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head
Psalms 139:5 (NLT)

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
Psalms 139:7 (NLT)

Additionally, God’s watchful care over us provides us with protection.

He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Psalms 121:3 (NLT)

The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.
Psalms 121:7 (NLT)

The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
Psalms 121:8 (NLT)

But wait there’s more…

Lastly, and oh so significantly, our loving and most gracious Father also sees the following…

He sees our hearts. (1 Samuel 16:7)

He sees our secret prayers. (Matthew 6:6)

He sees our tears. (Psalm 56:8)

He sees, (understands), our weaknesses and struggles. (Psalm 103:14)

He sees our future. (Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 139:16)

He sees our sins and flaws and has already forgiven them all. (Hebrews 8:12, Psalm 103:12)

And finally, I will share the most wonderful, incredible, amazing and truly mind-blowing truth about the way God sees us, and it is this: when our Holy, Perfect God looks at us, He sees us through His perfect Son.

…When God looks at you today, He doesn’t judge, esteem, and measure you according to your imperfections. He sees you in the Beloved—He sees you in Christ, and He sees the blood that has been shed for you by His dear Son.
Joseph Prince

This wonderful, eternal truth is a reason for continual gratitude. This is the gospel message. God sees us through His Son; whole, healed, righteous, free and forgiven. This is the way God sees us and this is the way He wants us to see one another, through His eyes of love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness.

I will close with the lyrics of one of my all-time favorite songs that reminds me that the God of heaven sees me. I have sung this song many times, both publicly and in my quiet times alone. I actually have a picture of the song title hanging in my kitchen, and I’d like to encourage you with these words today…

His Eye Is on The Sparrow,
written by Civilla D. Martin, 1905

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

For Reflection:

  • Read the following scriptures, making a special note of God’s loving watch care over you…
    Psalm 32:8
    Psalm 33:18
    Psalm 34:15
    Psalm 116:1
    1 Peter 3:12
  • Then Record your thoughts and gratitude in a journal.
  • Lastly, make note of any scripture that was most meaningful to you and record your reason.

Just thought you might like to see Oliver’s face…

Be blessed 🙂
