Perspective for Hard Things

“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!”  — Jeremiah 32:17 NLT

I’m currently in a season of overload, with many things I want—and need—to accomplish in a limited amount of time. What adds to my sense of “overload” is that I’ve mentally labeled some of my tasks as “hard.” Not necessarily because they are, but because I perceive them that way. Yet, I realize my mindset isn’t helpful as it causes me to see my tasks as obstacles, rather than what they truly are—opportunities to grow, learn, and deepen my dependence on God.

From a biblical perspective, “hard things,” when coupled with faith, can be transformed into possibilities as “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). He is limitless in wisdom, power, creativity, and resources. There is no challenge outside His understanding—nor anything He cannot handle. And through prayer, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit, we find courage to lean into hard things with confidence, knowing nothing is too hard for Him.

The prophet Jeremiah was someone who understood “hard things”. His life was marked by physical abuse, public humiliation, false accusations, death threats, and imprisonments—including one during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem.

And it was during this specific dark time that God instructed him to buy a field as a symbolic act of future hope for His people. To Jeremiah, however, this made no sense. The city was under siege, the land was about to be overtaken, and he was imprisoned. Purchasing property in a war zone seemed irrational—just one more confusing, “hard thing” on the long list of difficult assignments God had already given him.

Yet rather than protesting, yielding to despair, or giving up, Jeremiah chose to pray—a heartfelt prayer reminding himself of who God is: Sovereign. Creator. All-powerful. And in that posture of awe and surrender, his spiritual eyes were opened, leading him to declare:

“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you! (Jeremiah 32:17)

Despite confusion, frustration, and exhaustion, Jeremiah chose to believe a foundational truth about God: nothing is too hard for Him. And believing this made all the difference, transforming his perception of his challenges. And my friend, the same can be true for us.

While we may never face the same level of hardship Jeremiah did, we all encounter hard things—and will continue to throughout our life journey. Yet by leaning into prayer, trust, and faith, we can see God for who He truly is: the all-powerful God of the universe who works through us, equipping us to do every “hard thing” He has called us to.

So if you’re walking through “hard things”—relationally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or in any other way—be encouraged: what feels overwhelming to you is not to God. He sees you, knows you, loves you, and is more than able to work through you.

He is faithful. He is good. And nothing you’re facing—or will ever face—is too hard for Him.

Pray

Father God,

Thank You for empowering me to face all things—especially hard things—with faith and confidence. When I feel overwhelmed, may I always remember that what seems hard for me is not hard for You. Help me to respond to life’s challenges faithfully and prayerfully. You are an awesome God, and I choose to trust You in every circumstance.

In Jesus’ Name I pray,

Amen.
