For just a moment, make a mental list of people you consider to be completely loving. By this I refer to those rare breeds who consistently model love through their words and actions. I am blessed to know some of these people, and I hope you do as well. Yet, as wonderful and loving as these individuals may be, the truth is their love isn’t now, nor will it ever be perfect, as they themselves are not perfect. Further, there is no such thing as perfect love, at least not here on earth. That’s the sobering news.

But the far better news is there does exist a love like no other–one that is uniquely different and distinct, one that is also perfect and unfailing. In case you haven’t already guessed, the love I refer to is that of God’s.

God is Love

While many people may possess, express, and experience love, no one individual is love personified, yet “God is love” (1 John 4:16). And just as He is perfect, so is His love. This means His love will never fail. It will never end, leave or quit. This is critical to realize, as human love is not like this. Still, God’s love is completely different. It is matchless. It is a love like no other love. Just as God will never cease being God, He will also never cease to be loving. This is why we can put our complete trust in His love.

Believed and Received

Through Jesus, God has extended an open invitation for every person to know His love. Yet experiencing His love requires first believing it exists, and then receiving it personally.

Unfortunately, this is where a lot of folks get stuck, and honestly this is understandable. The reality of a perfect God, loving imperfect people perfectly, is truly mind-boggling. But the fact is, He does. He just does. This amazing love, which is precisely the love God has for each of us, is available to all, simply by trusting, believing and receiving it.

God’s Love for Us

God’s love for us is:

  • Unconditional: He loves us simply because He chooses to.
  • Compassionate: He sympathizes with our weaknesses, pains and sorrows.
  • Merciful: He shows us grace even when we blow it.
  • Powerful: He radically transforms us and our circumstances.
  • Healing: He heals our broken hearts, minds and bodies.
  • Eternal: He will never cease to love us.

In closing, there is no love that compares to this kind of love as it is God’s love. His love is constant and sure. Further, it is perfect, casting out fear, forgiving sin, and passionately pursuing us even when we shun and run from it. Unlike human love that sometimes fails, God’s love never will, nor will it disappoint or confuse us. Instead, His love will always welcome and embrace us. We know this to be certain, as God’s love is truly a love like no other.

So perhaps today, take some time in gratitude, reflecting upon the reality of God’s outrageous love for you. And then allow His “no other kind of love” to practically and tangibly overflow from you to others.

Pray

Gracious Father, there are no adequate words in expressing my heartfelt gratitude for your outrageous love for me, as well as for those I love. Thank you for choosing to love me, in spite of me. And thank you for forgiving me, and for pursuing me daily with your grace and mercy. You are an amazing God, and I am in awe of your love that is truly like no other. Amen
